Discovering the Wonders of Flight

Aviation has always captured the imagination of many, and the Aviation Museum Bullcreek is no exception. Nestled in a picturesque location, Bullcreek offers a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of flight and the intricacies of aeronautics, as our entriped members discovered

We engaged with various aspects of aviation, from historical aircraft displays to interactive exhibits that delve into the science behind flight. There was plenty of displays and information to cover all levels of interest.

Highlights of the Aviation Museum Outing

On entry to the museum, there was the Catalina, a flying boat that has a strong connection with Western Australia as many were located up at Exmouth during WW2. There was also the Tornado which was donated by the RAF to the museum this year as well as a FA-18, the annex to the first hanger.

The highlight of the tour was the Avro Lancaster display in hangar two. This writer has a particular love of this aircraft from a young age. The Girls had a private tour of the Lancaster and were joined by Peter Edwards. The guide David, was very informative about the Lancaster and its role in Bomber Command during WW2. It was interesting that very little is known by the general public about the role of Australians in Bomber Command in WW2 and how many were lost during the war.

There was also a Macchi, which Kay, Deb and Jess got to sit in courtesy of David. David knew Kay’s husband in the RAAF and flew with him.

Feeding the Masses

Once everyone had explored the Museum, we went over to the RAAFA Club and were shown to the Bowling Club Rooms to have Lunch. The Roast was a popular meal along with the Curry of the Day. Conversations and food shared in good company for over an hour at Lunch.

Mystery tour on the way home

Once all were upon the bus to go home, we headed up the freeway towards Hillarys. Our bus driver took us on mystery tour through the suburbs around Hillarys, before we all got of the bus at Hillarys, were we dispersed for our homes.

The day was enjoyed by all and there are only a few of the photos of the day here.
