MEETING OPENED at 16:00, President welcomed 122 members and recited the Ode
HOMAGE:
The Australian Air Force that was founded on 31 March 1921 and on 13 August 1921 the use of the prefix “Royal” came into effect. So to all our RAAF people, congratulations on being 100.
I take a moment to remind us of the significance of the 18th of August during the Vietnam War.
On 18 August 1966
The Battle of Long Tan took place in a rubber plantation near Long Tan in Phuoc Tuy Province. The action was fought amid a tropical downpour between more than 2000 Viet Cong and the People’s Army of Vietnam, and 108 diggers of D Company 6 RAR. They were supported by artillery, a timely resupply by the RAAF and the arrival of APC’s carrying reinforcements.
Seventeen young Australians were killed, one died of wounds, and 24 were wounded.

On 18 August 1971
The Australian Government announced that the 1st Australian Task Force would be withdrawn before Christmas 1971, and the logistic support force shortly thereafter.
From the time of the arrival of the first ADF Team in 1962 almost 60,000 Australians, including Army, Air Force and Navy personnel, served in Vietnam.
521 died as a result, and over 3000 wounded.
We Remember all those who served in Vietnam.

Treasurer David King provided a comprehensive report and Balance Sheet of our finances and provided a copy for each table. An explanation of financial transactions and account balances was provided.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Office Bearers & AGM. John Rolfe advised the AGM will be held immediately after this Monthly Meeting & voting for nominations for the positions of President, Vice President & Warden will be made.
Web Site Admin. Brian Jennings reported: July Listening Post has an article on the Darwin trip. VWMA, Virtual War Memorial now has stories of 4 of our members & photos & details of local memorials.

Welfare. Greg Gough advised:
Gronow now has a crook heart.
Pierucci Is now to have screws & plates fitted
Prior has returned to his home today
Carrol has returned home but remains on restricted duties
Jack Meyer has had a fall and is in “Charlies” recovering and receiving physio.
Peer Health. Alex Lennox advised:
Peer Health Week – 7 Oct to 14 November. Excursions to the Bibbulmun Track (5 November) & Araluen (22 October) are planned. Details to follow. Funding has been approved to help with transport. All members (service, affiliate & social) are welcome and encouraged to attend all outings & functions.
Social Activities Coordinator Paul McGuinness reported:
Army Museum 13 August. Cost $20, bus leaves Hillarys at 0945.
Tour of Duty 2022 is planned for Kalgoorlie in March. Details to follow.
Xmas Lunch 24 November. The target is 15 tables of 10 people per table. Cost is $65pp. PM is wanting a person to be “Table Captain” to organize their attendees & collect monies.
4 Wheel Drive Trip. R. Couston advised the trip is leaving 26 Sep for 10 days. 9 Vehicles are going & there is room for another.
GENERAL BUSINESS
North Beach Football Club. NBFC are holding their postponed Anzac Day match this Saturday. Members are asked to attend from 1345 hrs wearing medals.
Darwin Contact. J. Panosian advised that veterans visiting Darwin would be welcomed by veteran John Anictomatis who is also the Greek High Commissioner.

Members are advised that details of the Joondalup Hub are on our website, along with other providers of Advocacy support. Joondalup Hub is contactable 24/7 on 04370 378 498.
109 members stayed for meals (plus WW2 and Korean Veterans who courtesy of our Sub-Branch don’t pay for their meal). Dinner Arrangements – Ladies and Older Veterans to be given the usual courtesy of “First Serve” of our Caterer Kenny’s Thai chicken curry & rice.
