At the North Beach RSL Sub-branch, we are committed to supporting our veterans and their families by keeping our community informed about significant developments affecting the welfare of current and former Australian Defence Force members. In this regard, we want to highlight the Interim Report from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, released on 11 August 2022. This report plays a crucial role in addressing issues surrounding the well-being of our veterans.
The Interim Report presents 13 recommendations, which are aimed at addressing the pressing concerns identified by the Royal Commission. These recommendations are directed towards the Australian Government for urgent action, and they cover several critical areas, including:
- Legislative Reform: The report calls for immediate legislative changes to ensure better support and protections for veterans and their families.
- Claims Processing at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA): One of the major issues identified was the delays and inefficiencies in processing claims through the DVA, which have caused significant distress to veterans. The Royal Commission recommends streamlining these processes to improve response times and support.
